The February edition of The Quill included an article discussing the transition of the North Carolina court records from the multiple case management/index systems to Odyssey: NC Integrated Case Management System (Odyssey or ICMS). The old system data was migrated into the new ICMS in four pilot counties – Wake, Johnston, Harnett and Lee – in February 2023. The ICMS system went “live” in these counties mid-February.* I am revisiting this topic because, as most of you are aware, there are glitches with the system related to indexing and the search functions and we want to be sure you, our customers, are abreast of some recent changes related to this issue. The problems with the new system make it difficult for a title examiner or closing attorney to rely fully on the new system when searching judgments, civil actions, claims of liens, lis pendens, tax liens, etc.
At this time, there is no clear schedule for when the Odyssey Portal will be fully functional. However, to address the ongoing concerns and to facilitate the continuation of closings in North Carolina, NCLTA has amended the original affidavit and indemnity agreement. The revised affidavit and indemnity agreement has been adopted for use by NCLTA and can be found here:
Word: NCLTA – AOC Odyssey Affidavit – Word
PDF: NCLTA – AOC Odyssey Affidavit – PDF
The revised agreement includes the following changes: 1) removes references to documents that would be found in a normal search of a ROD index; and 2) clarifies the indemnification agreement does not replace the appropriate NCLTA lien waivers. Additionally, the agreement should not be used to replace the Odyssey search. The search attorney is still required to search the Odyssey portal, notwithstanding the frustrations and frequent futility of searching in the Odyssey system.
Please be sure to update your forms library to include the most recent NCLTA affidavit and indemnity agreement.

*For those customers who handle closing transactions for property located in Mecklenburg County, according to the North Carolina Judicial Branch’s eCourts website, Mecklenburg County is “Up Next in 2023”. However, the original transition and go live date, May 2023, has been postponed to a date uncertain. We can only hope that the Odyssey portal will be fully functional when Meck goes live!

1. Favorite Breakfast? A toss up between a waffle with peanut butter and warm maple syrup or my grandmother’s homemade chipped beef.
2. Coffee vs Tea? Recently tea, but I like both!
3. Do you prefer working from home or in an office? Definitely from home!
4. Dinner at the table or on the couch? At the table only so I can eat in peace and not have little dogs staring me down for food they know they won’t get!
5. What is your favorite dessert? Banana pudding (has to be cold banana pudding – I do not like the warm version) or cheesecake.
6. What are you currently watching? Nothing actually. I haven’t really found a new show to binge watch. Boring, I know!
7. If you had one free hour in your day, what would you do?Probably take a nap – sounds crazy but my happy place is sleeping!
8. Are you a morning person or night owl? Honestly I am neither. I am happiest when I can get 10 hours of sleep so it just depends on when that happens.
9. What is your bedtime? Anywhere between 10:30pm-11:30pm.
10. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that we may not know. I have been a scuba diver since I was 15. I even took scuba diving as an elective in college so I could get my advance certification and be able to dive deeper!

Are you looking for a great recipe for tailgating season? We’ve got the perfect side dish for you! Jennifer’s got-to potato salad recipe.
Ingredients:
Directions:
Wash, peel and quarter potatoes. Cook in salted water for 1/2 hour or until a knife cuts through easily. Or you can peel the potatoes after they are cooked and cool. If you are using the little ones don’t peel them. Dice potatoes into the size you would prefer. I like small, 1/2″ size.
Combine potatoes, green onions and hard-boiled eggs. Blend remaining sauce ingredients. Mix lightly with potato mixture while potatoes are still warm. I think the flavor soaks in better this way. Chill and serve! Serves 6 generously.
*This can be made a day ahead. If eating outside, put the bowl with potato salad inside a larger bowl with ice cubes to keep cool.
The start of the season is around the corner and we couldn’t be more ready! Check out the 2023 schedule!
